Cuando The English Concert interpreta 'El Mesías' de Händel en la impresionante catedral de Coventry, la combinación es perfecta: desde su fundación en 1972, el conjunto ha elevado el estándar de la interpretación barroca con instrumentos de época, consiguiendo importantes premios por sus espectaculares grabaciones de música religiosa, incluidas varias interpretaciones de 'El Mesías' que han sido muy elogiadas. 

Al conjunto y su extraordinario coro se unen el gran John Nelson y los solistas estrella Lucy Crowe, Alex Potter, Michael Spyres y Matthew Brook, en un concierto imprescindible: la manera perfecta de comenzar la temporada navideña, o de experimentar un momento de auténtica magia en cualquier época del año.

Quizás el oratorio más conocido jamás compuesto, 'El Mesías' de Händel fue escrito en poco más de tres semanas a finales del verano de 1741 y se estrenó con una gran acogida en Dublín al año siguiente. Famoso especialmente por su extático coro 'Hallelujah', durante el cual todo el público se pone tradicionalmente de pie, y por magníficas arias como 'He was despised' (Fue despreciado), 'El Mesías' es un imponente monumento de música sacra y vocal, tan dramático como una ópera completamente escenificada y tan musicalmente satisfactoria como las más grandiosas obras sinfónicas.
